David Martínez - Dialogue Option 2

Meghan and Minerva, two teachers, are discussing the rights and wrongs of adding a new school subject about Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Minerva: Guess what! Yesterday after watching a TV documentary about new ways of teaching, I came up with the idea that we should do something new in our school, too. Something to adapt our old-fashioned teaching methods to these modern times… Hey, what if we added ICT as a new school subject?

Meghan: Well… I’m not sure about that. I mean, I agree with you that our methods need an upgrade, and teaching ICT could be an interesting choice for our students, since ICT has become an important part in our lives.

Minerva: So? What’s the problem, then?

Meghan: The problem, Minerva, is that I don’t know how we would carry on this ‘project’. Most of us don’t even know how to properly use a computer… and you want us to teach this to our students?

Minerva: Calm down, Meghan. You know this is not a real problem. I don’t know either how to properly use a computer… However, we could take some kind of IT course. Teaching involves sacrificing for your students, isn’t it?

Meghan: Guess you’re right… Let’s do it!
